Late 1990's and early 2000's congress explored establishing a Space Corps or Space Force.
Late 2010's the idea was explored in response to military space developments by Russia and China.
December 20, 2019 - The National Defense Authorization Act was signed into law, establishing the United States Space Force.
Current role of the Space Force:
Oversees launch operations for the Pentagon.
Maintains freedom of space for U.S. activities.
Protects U.S. space assets from threats and adversaries.
